Mugabe rewards loyalists

mugabe_teamHARARE - President Robert Mugabe (Pictured) this week honoured army generals who have stood by him and ensured his political survival in the face of dissent within his Zanu (PF) party and growing unpopularity among ordinary Zimbabweans.

Among those rewarded for their loyalty to the Zimbabwean strongman was controversial Brigadier-General Douglas Nyikayaramba who received the Grand Officer of the Zimbabwe Order of Merit Medal, the second highest honour bestowed on members of the defence forces.

Nyikayaramba was rewarded during Zimbabwe’s Defence Forces Day celebrations in Harare on Tuesday for his unwavering loyalty to Mugabe and Zanu (PF) since 1980. Nyikayaramba was among 13 serving and retired army officers awarded the

Grand Officer of the Zimbabwe Order of Merit Medal.

Also rewarded by Mugabe were retired Major General Givan Maseko and the late Major General Amoth Chimombe who received the highest award, the Grand Commander of the Zimbabwe Order of Merit Medal for their contributions to Zimbabwe.
