The death follows that of Mugabes sister Sabina Mugabe last month.
Sabina, the mother of Leo Mugabe, Patrick and Robert Zhuwao, passed away at the Avenues Clinic where she had been admitted since last Friday after allegedly complaining of stomach pains.
Ambassador Joey Bimha confirmed the death of Marufu.
Born in Sadza, Chivhu in 1955, Marufu did his primary education at Sadza Primary School and later went to Makumbi Mission in 1974 where he did his Ordinary Levels.
Soon after completing his secondary education, Marufu left Zimbabwe for the liberation struggle and was trained in Tanzania.
At independence, he joined the Zimbabwe National Army where he rose through the ranks to become a lieutenant before joining the Presidents Office.
At the time of his death, he was a farmer at Leopards Vlei Farm in Bindura where mourners are gathered.

Harare - President Robert Mugabes brother In-law Reward Marufu has died. Marufu who is brother to the First Lady, Amai Grace Mugabe died at the age of 54. Marufu died last night at his Leopards Vlei Farm in Bindura. He is survived by his wife, Debra and six children.
