SAFAIDS retraining campaigns

BULAWAYO - The Southern Africa HIV and AIDS Information Dissemination Service (SAFAIDS) and Gender Links have engaged in separate training campaigns to equip members of the media with knowledge on HIV and Aids reporting and gender mainstreaming.

Journalists from different media houses met at a local hotel in Bulawayo last week for a one day training workshop organized by SAFAIDS with the aim of making known to the scribes some of the research that has been done on HIV and Aids, as well as facilitating teaching on the correct way of reporting on the pandemic.

Speaking at the workshop, SAFAIDS facilitator, Joshua Chigodora, said the war against the Aids pandemic could only be won with the help of the media.

Round 8 of the Global Fund involves training, and the media cannot be ignored as it plays an integral part in the fight against AIDS, he said.

Gender Links (GL) is a South African based organisation that champions the cause of gender equality. The organisation held a one day workshop for scribes from various media houses at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) last week.
