Grass-roots musicians scouted out by Mukuru are recorded in their rural setting using a remote studio. The songs from these recordings are then sold online, 80 per cent of each track sold is then forwarded on to the artist via Mukuru’s SMS-Cash system.
This initial pilot scheme focuses on Zimbabwe, where poverty is rife, and minimum wage hovers around $US50 per month. Every time someone buys a song from Mukuru Music, they impact greatly on the day to day struggle these artists face to make ends meet by following their passion.
