Chitungwiza executive backs Tsvangirai

morganCHITUNGWIZA - The new Chitungwiza Executive led by legislator Alex Musundire has pledged its support to party President Morgan Tsvangirai (pictured) at the party National Congress that is scheduled for next year.

Musundire said that people should not be led astray by Zanu (PF) mouthpiece the Herald, which has been reporting about non-existant divisions in the party by falsely reporting that Finance Minister Tenai Biti intends to topple Tsvangirai. Biti himself has refuted the allegations.

“Chitungwiza is united, we believe in the leadership qualities of Tsvangirai, we believe that he is the person that will deliver us to a new Zimbabwe,” said Musundire who took over the reigns of the powerful provinces in election that were held last year to replace the suspended executive.

There are reports in the Herald that the elections were not free and fair. But Chitungwiza’s representative to the MDC-T National Executive, Fidelis Mhashu, said:

There was complete fairness in the election of the Chitungwiza Executive. Everything was done above board and there are no complaints.

Under the MDC constitution a National Congress should be held next year where coincidentally Tsvangirais term as the party President will come to an end. Tsvangirai may contest for a different post.

However, senior MDC-T members want Tsvangirai to continue since he offers the greatest threat to Mugabe.
