Church leaders, CIO brainwash members

....as MDC calls for RGs office to be impartial
HARARE - Apostolic church leaders in different parts of the country have upped the ante in campaigning for President Robert Mugabe at church services through prayers and giving out IDs.

According to the MDC-T Deputy Organising Secretary, Morgan Komichi, certain church leaders are now preaching that Mugabe should be president for life.

We are concerned by the way Zanu (PF) has infiltrated the church and is using state security agents to campaign for Mugabe. At the Marange church, the first message that leaders preach is that President Mugabe was chosen by God and therefore no one can remove him. We are really concerned by such interference with peoples freedom to worship, said Komichi.

Zanu (PF), already in election campaigning mode, has targeted the apostolic church and has dispatched members of the dreaded Central Intelligence Organisation to rally people behind Zanu (PF).

Members of the CIO are said to be in cahoots with church leaders in brainwashing people. The following leaders have been identified: in Mberengwa – Madzibaba Matukutire, in Mrewa – Simon Charumbira and in Gutu – Madzibaba Chaunoita.

Mugabe and Zanu (PF) leaders have been given a free rein in the church while attempts by Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai to visit the church have been thwarted.

We respect the church and we are in collaboration with some churches; however we cannot force the churches to follow us as we believe in freedom of worship. There should be no politics in the churches, said Komichi.

He called upon the Registrar Generals office to be impartial in issuing national registration documents.

They are giving national id papers to members of the apostolic church so they must also give documents to other communities. People in remote parts of the country such as Binga do not have registration papers.

The whole process is not transparent if everything was above board then they should have advertised so that all people who want Ids can get them. What Zanu (PF) is doing is a sign of groundwork for rigging. We are not unaware of their tactics, warned Komichi.
