GOKWE A Chinese company, SINO Zimbabwe Cotton Company, is being used by Zanu (PF) to force people to buy party cards in order to be included on the list of recipients to receive free cotton inputs for the next farming season.

A senior party official who works at the Ministry of Womens Affairs Gender and Community Development Gokwe centre offices, identified as Chinyama, is allegedly spearheading the Zanu party card possession cotton inputs campaign in the entire district.

Sources in the cotton-growing Gokwe South district said Chinyama, together with scores of Zanu militia, were moving around with the Chinese cotton company demanding party cards before anyone could be included in the programme.

These people are taking advantage of the Chinese who do not understand Shona. They are saying we should have Zanu party cards for us to qualify for the cotton credit scheme run by the company. They are claiming that the Chinese where brought into the area by Zanu (PF) and therefore everyone should vote for the liberation party because of that, said the villagers.

Sino Zimbabwe cotton company rescued Gokwe villagers by buying their cotton at a better price last season when other buyers had offered very little for the product.

The Chinese cotton company offered US$0.50 per kilogram while other companies where paying US$0,40.
