The 1-0 win by Highlander ‘Bosso’ over the soccer top flight league newcomers, moved the Bulawayo giants up the premier league log from 14 to 10th position.
Bosso has amassed 18 points from a streak of losing away encounters, draws and narrow-margin wins at home.
Egyptian mentor, Mohammed Fathi, in the hot seat at Bosso, expressed satisfaction with the result describing it as “The beginning of a bright future.”
Talent and pace exhibited by Bosso, proved the team could still be in contention for the 2010 Premier league championship, come end of season. The team has talent, vision and the heart of a lion.
Playing at home, youthful Douglas Warriors went down fighting, in a match which could have gone either way. Team strikers threw everything into the tightly contested match. They bombarded the Highlanders goal area with missile after missile. Their attempts found Highlanders goal minder, Brighton Dube, equal to the task.
Highlanders found the net through Simbarashe Gati, in the 78th minute. The goal was a priceless gift from a goal mouth melee. Simbarashe had earlier missed a glaring opportunity to score from the 18 area box 10 minutes from the breather. He fired off target facing an empty goal with Douglass Keeper, Ariel Sibanda off guard.
The dreadlocked Sibanda’s powerful left footer thunder bolts reminded fans of Highlanders legends, Nhamo Shambira, Mecedes ‘Rambo’ Sibanda among others.
Super substitute and veteran striker, Chipo Tsodzo’s inclusion 36 minutes into the second half, breathed life and vision into the Bosso strike-force. Tsodzo displayed deft footwork which kept spectators on the edge of their seats.
