INARA to help RDC

roadHARARE - Several roads in Tongogara Rural District Council will undergo re gravelling courtesy of US$46 000 in funding from the Zimbabwe National Roads Authority (ZINARA).

Tongogara RDC Chief Executive officer, Dr Otis Simbi Mantiziba, said the road network rehabilitation programme was a necessary and important venture as the state of roads in the district had deteriorated to appalling levels.

“We want to make sure that our road network is close to perfect and we hope the money we received from ZINARA will go a long way in improving the state of our roads which had gone down over the past few years.

“Our main objective is to make our roads attractive to transport operators who have been shunning certain routs in the district. This will help the rural folk in accessing transport to and from the metropolis. As you know there is no investor who in their right senses would invest in an area where the road network in pathetic so we hope that once we give a facelift to our

road investors will see it worth while to do business in our district,” Dr Mantiziba said.

He also revealed that council had hired WellMark Engineering to do spot gravelling on the 10km stretch along Nyagari- Ngezi road as well as motor grading of the same road. The re-gravelling of the 21km stretch along Dorset- Mavhumashava road and the 14.3 km stretch along Jabangwe- Mharishongwe road will be done internally. Council will also provide technical expertise, man power and meet the project supervisory costs.

“We hope to acquire our own equipment in due course which will mean speedy implementation of our road network rehabilitation programme, said Mantiziba.
