George Charamba told State media that the veteran president was elated with the hefty increase.
When the President read it, he beamed and said: The salary has not only improved, I am also eligible for an Edgars account!
The announcement was made as civil servants threatened industrial action to demand decent wages.



HARARE President Robert Mugabe has been granted a pay rise of almost 400 per cent, despite claims that the government is bankrupt. There is no confirmation that the inclusive government has approved the increse but, if it goes ahead, Mugabe will get more than US$1,500 dollars a month.
