The MDC Today: Monday 27 September, 2010

police__great_zim_universityOver 50 armed police officers in riot gear today turned up for the memorial service of MDC activist, Chrispen Mandizvidza at Stodart Hall in Mbare, Harare. Mandizvidza died last week from injuries sustained in hospital after he was severely assaulted at a Copac outreach meeting by rowdy Zanu PF youths at Mai Musodzi Hall in Mbare.

In Masvingo, Chartsworth police arrested Hon. Tongai Matutu, the MDC MP for Masvingo Urban and deputy Youth Development, Indigenisation Empowerment minister and five other MDC supporters at a rally at Steven business centre in Gutu West, Masvingo Saturday. The six MDC leaders were arrested and detained for seven hours at Chartsworth Police Station before they were transferred to the Law and Order section at Masvingo Central Police Station.

The Constitutional Parliamentary Committee (Copac) met in Harare on Monday and resolved to resuscitate 42 Copac outreach meetings in Harare that had been abandoned after Zanu PF youths turned rowdy and disrupted the meetings. The three Copac chairpersons resolved the public hearings will resume on Saturday and Sunday in Harare and some parts of Chitungwiza.

The MDC Copac chairperson, Hon. Douglas Mwonzora said that the select committee had resolved that the outreach meetings that were disrupted or abandoned in Harare last week should be held this weekend.
