Zanu youths steal chickens

MARONDERA-SVOSVE - Zanu (PF) youths who looted livestock from suspected MDC supporters in the run-up to the June 2008 elections are on the rampage again, stealing property and chickens in village 17, Macheke.

Recently, Zanu (PF) youths, Togara Mugodhi, Punish Chemurema and others were caught red-handed stealing chickens. They were beaten up by local Zanu (PF) secretary, Author Ngoma, and forced to confess. They confessed to the theft and accused Zanu (PF) senior officials in the area for ordering them to steal cattle and other livestock from suspected MDC supporters. Some stolen chickens were recovered at Neshamba Village and returned to owners. Police at Masomera refused to arrest the thugs for fear of attracting the wrath of senior party officials, said a villager.

Twenty-five beasts were allegedly looted during Zanus 2008 reign of terror and slaughtered and feasted at Ngomas homestead. An officer at Masomera Police Post confirmed the incidents, but said the cases were taboo as they would land him in trouble if found responsible for divulging information to the media.
