Bloody land clashes

MARONDERA - Zanu (PF) in-house clashes over land invasions assumed a dangerous dimension last Tuesday, following a brutal attack on party youth, Taurai Sauti of Rujeko, by suspected rival party youths.

Taurai was attacked with stones and left for dead on Tuesday evening by unidentified assailants in Rujeko. He was reportedly rescued by passers by who reported the incident to police. Police ferried the brutally attacked Sauti to hospital.

Sauti is leading fresh farm invasions in the province ostensibly to allocate land to party youths used to terrorize suspected MDC supporters in the run up to June Presidential elections re-run.

“Last weekend, Zanu (PF) provincial security officer, Lawrence Katsiru, hired two truck loads of party youths to beat up and chase Sauti and colleagues who were attempting to invade Warswick Farm. Katsiru, who invaded a farm in the area at the height of farm invasions, told the youths that the era of farm invasions was over. No new farm invasions should take place after signing of the GPA. This did not go down well with rogue youths who felt that they were used and dumped during farm invasions by party leadership,” said a party insider privy to the farm invasion clashes.

There were reports that some youths injured in the weekend skirmishes were still recovering in Marondera General Hospital.

Neighbours reported that Katsiru visited Sauti’s residents on Tuesday evening, demanding to see the party youth. Sauti’s parents told Katsiru that his ‘hunt’, Sauti, was not available. Katsiru allegedly left threatening to deal with Sauti next time they meet.
