FRESH START 2011 CAMPAIGN LANDS 8 IN POLICE CUSTODY

strikers_hospitalYesterday 8 Masvingo students were arrested for campaigning for the closure of institutions of higher learning. Brighton Ramusi and Godfrey Kurauone are still in police custody whilst Arnold Batirai and Gamuchirai Mukura were released since the court earlier on resolved that it shall proceed by way of summons.

The other remaining four students who were caught giving insight to the Great Zimbabwe University students were arrested on the basis of inciting public violence which is contrary to the actions of these student activists.

Meanwhile, Samson Nxumalo and Archifod Mudzengi are still remanded in custody for contempt of court. Lawyers in Bualwayo yesterday informed the Spokesperson Grant Tabvurei and the former ZINASU Treasurer General Sheunesu Nyoni that they are willing to assist but need the go ahead from Irene Petras of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights.

The human rights defenders cannot be continuously be remanded in custody and ZINASU has tried to solve the misunderstanding with ZLHR but it seems it is not bearing any fruits. Students in Bulawayo are bitter in the unreasonableness being applied when handling the issue of the resilient and resolute student leaders Samson Nxumalo and Archfod Mudzengi.
