Jani Varandeni, whose MDC-T Member of Parliament for Bikita South told the House that Zanu (PF) militia have unleashed a reign of terror in his constituency beating, abducting and torturing MDC supporters including local councilors.
“In Ward 6, Urayi Mukanga the winning councillor’s home was burnt and many items were destroyed,” he said. “He ran away to Mutare and Chief Ziki was behind the programme. In Ward 28, the winning MP, myself and councillor’s homes were burnt and destroyed. Lorries, tractors, trucks and most of the peoples goats were taken to the base for independence.”
Varandeni said the violence has put a stop to development work and projects in the affected areas.
Zanu (PF) spokesman Rugare Gumbo could not be reached for comment on the matter.
