One day, they will have to pay

That by this time next year Zimbabwe will probably be back to 2008 or worse should by now be obvious to all except the fatally optimistic.

Zanu (PF) will once again be unrivalled on the throne of power after assaulting, raping, torturing and murdering their way to victory in elections that Mugabe insists must happen next year with or without a new constitution. The state media will not anymore need to refer to the Head of State and Government and the Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces. It will simply be President Robert Mugabe unequalled and unchallenged.

Thats what it has all been about for Mugabe and Zanu (PF). The whole global political agreement (GPA) and inclusive government charade has been about one thing: buying time for Zanu (PF) to rest and regroup before launching one last charge to seize power all power for itself. And the stage is well set for Zanu (PF) to implement its grand strategy. The voters roll is in shambles. The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has said it neither has cash nor manpower to sort out the messy in time for elections next year.

Any fresh ballot shall have rely on the same distorted register that contains names of people who last walked the earth 50 or 80 years ago. No prizes for guessing for whom the ghost voters shall cast their ballot. With the security forces still controlled by the same characters that masterminded the violence that left at least 200 MDC supporters dead to ensure the peoples verdict was overturned in 2008, Mugabe and Zanu (PF) have their ducks neatly in a row.

And if you throw in that karaoke performer from next door they call the SADC mediator, then it is not hard to see why Zanu (PF)s strategy to recover lost power is a sure winner, save for one thing: Mugabe and his partys strategy can secure political power but it cannot resolve the economic question. Another violence marred and stolen election will simply and immediately revive the issue of legitimacy. They can bully defenceless villagers to vote for them, they can fool Jacob Zuma but they cannot bully or fool the world.

The little economic support that was beginning to trickle in will dry up. There will be no food in the shops and no medicines in the hospitals. Our children will die of otherwise curable diseases and those luck to survive will grow up to become fools because there were no books or teachers at school.

Our hopes will be dashed again. Zimbabwe will once more become a pariah state. We will be humiliated again! And that so much pain shall be visited upon so many so that only a few can have more power and privilege makes it so hard to disagree with those that say matters must be settled at The Hague.
