mdc_symbolThe MDC Chipinge East MP, Hon. Mathias Mlambo who was sentenced by a Chipinge magistrate to 10 months in prison on charges of defeating the course of justice was today acquitted at the High Court. After his sentence in 2009, Hon. Mlambo was suspended from Parliament. Hon. Mlambo was arrested on 11 April 2009 at a funeral of an MDC activist at Grassplain in Chipinge b

They accused Hon. Mlambo of harbouring the suspect from the police and arrested him. However, the High Court ruled that Hon. Mlambo had not committed any crime and was acquitted. Several MDC MPs have been arrested since the signing of the GPA on various trumped-up charges.

Meanwhile, President Tsvangirai in his capacity as the Prime Minister today launched a massive housing project in Highfields, Harare. Speaking at the launch, President Tsvangirai said the government was committed in making sure that people had access to better houses. However, he said it was not humane for the government to demolish peoples houses like what happened during Operation Murambatsvina.

The operation by the then Zanu PF government destroyed peoples homes. It claimed that the houses were illegal and left over million people homeless with no alternative accommodation. He said the government was working towards making sure that people were properly housed. The project, being done by Ministry of National Housing and Social amenities, will see the ministry constructing block of flats that will benefit 250 families.
