Ireland — which lost the series 1-2 with their single wining coming in the last game of the one-one day series — dropped to eleventh, a position Zimbabwe occupied ahead of the series.
Ireland captain William Porterfield was pleased with the closing win although disappointed at the series defeat.
“In the first two games, we put ourselves in winning positions, but they managed to pull through,” said Porterfield. “It was nice to pull through today, it was fantastic. No one wants to lose 3-0, you got to pride yourself in wearing the Ireland green jersey.”
Despite some pre-tour controversy about Ireland’s decision to travel to Zimbabwe, Porterfield described the trip as “fantastic”.
“I played with Zimbabwean Anthony Ireland at Gloucestershire. He said it’s a fantastic country. He said, ‘You will love it, the people are fantastic.’ We were entirely comfortable,” he said.
Zimbabwe s cricket fortunes have improved in recent months following the return of some senior players who had quit following differences with Zimbabwe Cricket leadership.
