Flower ready to move on with ZC

grant_flower_twoMashonaland Eagles captain Grant Flower says he is happy to be back in the fold of the Zimbabwe Cricket that he and other top players once abandoned following differences with the local games officials. (Pictured: Mashonaland Eagles captain Grant Flower)

It has been great being back with the Zim team, it was never a nice feeling hearing the team I once played for being criticised. Though some of the criticism was constructive the other was unfair, said the former Essex batsman.

Asked about his brother and England Cricket coach Andy Flowers comments two years ago that he would never come back until there was a change of government in Zimbabwe and the Peter Chingoka-led cricket board was out of office, Flower appeared to attribute the comments to the heat of the moment and even suggested his brother may have since changed his stance on returning.

We made some mistakes, Flower confessed to The Zimbabwean on Sunday. I havent spoken to Andy in a long time but I think he may have changed his mind on that because things have changed here. It is the same people we worked with back then yes; but their attitudes have changed and things are working on well. The Mashonaland Eagles captain may have chosen to pursue a career in coaching as his friends back in England advised him to do, but he opted to rejoin Zimbabwe Cricket where he is the batting coach.

Most (friends in England) of them were supportive (about the idea of rejoining ZC), but others doubted it would be a good idea. They suggested I rather pursue a coaching career there but I remember that when we played back then we had a lot of ideas that can help the talented players. My decision was largely influenced by Alistair Campbell being here, I knew we could work together to help the young players do well with the potential they have, he said.
