Gweru schools celebrate love of libraries

GWERU International School Library Month was said to be a resounding success in Gweru, where hard work, enthusiasm and the love of books compensated for the lack of resources.

tokweAlthough the school library plays a crucial role in teaching and learning, there is no national school library service in Zimbabwe and many authorities have neglected libraries because of cash constraints.

Nine schools celebrated the event at CJR primary school, beginning with a procession through the town, with banners and drum majorettes. Children also recited poems and sang, and were given books as a thank you.
