Kaukonde blasts insensitive Zanu (PF) leadership

ray_kaukondeWADDILOVE - Zanu (PF) Mashonaland East Provincial Chairperson, Ray Kaukonde, last Saturday blasted insensitive Zanu (PF) top officials who did not plough back into their struggling former schools. Kaukonde was the guest of honor at Waddilove Primary Boarding School, Speech and Prize Giving Day. He told the gathering that he believed

The dilapidated state of the school does not suggest top Zanu (PF) officials such as Sydney Sekeramayi, Nathan Shamuyarira among others, acquired primary education here. Why are these top politicians not sensitive enough to plough something back towards maintenance of the institution which was the foundation of what they are now? It breaks my heart when I realize these politicians amassed wealth from which they could at least put aside a small percentage for the benefit of their former school. Instead they continue casting a blind eye to the sorry state of affairs at the school. Buildings at a school which nurtured prominent and top politicians like Sekeramayi and Shamuyarira have ceilings made of old and tattered sack bags. This is unbelievable. These politicians must revisit their former schools and assist where necessary, Kaukonde told the more than 1 000 visitors.

He also took a swipe at politicians and people who did nothing towards improving educational standards in the country, despite having resources to do so. People better positioned to pull resources and improve education in the country shun local schools and enroll their children at schools abroad. Is it sensible to shun run down local schools and take your children to overseas schools in countries such as Australia and others. Surely such behaviour boggles the mind.

My heart also bleeds when I learn that commercial farmers who bought farms with hard earned cash were assisting schools with beasts for meat, while those who benefited from the land reform programme were so stingy that they could not donate anything in cash or kind to schools in their area. What kind of parents are we? Farmers who benefited from the land reform programme should at least donate a beast and some cereals each towards farm projects at boarding schools in their locality. This would not be asking for too much, he said.

He donated $1 300 in cash towards purchasing of computers for the headmasters office. My family also donated building material in form of 100 bags of cement, door and window frames towards construction of teachers quarters.

The school intends to construct a 14 roomed teachers living quarters which would accommodate three families.
