Makoni said Zimbabwe needed elections immediately to save the country from the jaws of power-hungry leaders.
The country needs elections like yesterday because this inclusive government, a child born out of rape, is not working for the people at all. We need people to establish a responsible, accountable and responsive leadership out of free and fair elections, he said.
Makoni acknowledged the current environment wasnt conducive to free and fair elections, but said the country needed to prepare through credible laws and a transparent, well-resourced electoral body. He warned, however, that Mugabe will not create a condition for free elections in Zimbabwe.
Free and fair elections will not work to his favour, nor will Morgan Tsvangirai. It is up to us Zimbabweans not to be forced to participate in elections that wont reflect our will. On Friday, MDC (Mutambara) chief negotiator in the GPA, Welshman Ncube said it was not in the national interest to rush into an election when the constitution making exercise was yet to be completed.
We have political gladiators understandably who are more preoccupied with proving to the nation and to each other who has the less fear of the election than the other, he said.
All objective indicators show two things: it is not in the national interest to rush into an election or even talk about it when you have not completed the constitution making exercise, he said.
