Mugabe should withdraw to save face – Vhilela

size_vhelelaMARONDERA - Mugabe should withdraw from presidential polls to save face, as he risks embarrassing defeat at the hands of Morgan Tsvangirai, MDC-T Marondera District Youth Chairperson, Size Vhilela, has warned. There is no way Mugabe could be match to Tsvangirai. Zanu (PF) is no more. Even Mugabes close allies are looking to MDC leadership for economic survival. MDC has trounced Mugabe and Zanu (PF) in elections since 2000 reducing the former ruling party into a pale shadow of itself, said Vhilela at a rally last Saturday.

Mugabe knows his political career ended on March 28, 2008. No one cares anymore about what new titles he gives himself, as everyone knows he has no mandate to run the country outside the GPA.

The firebrand leader also took a swipe at the police who continued to arrest MDC-T youths on flimsy charges.

Police officers who put on uniforms inside-out and arrest innocent MDC-T youths on trumped up charges should change their ways. Society expects police officers to execute their duties professionally without bias.

He called on Zimbabweans to desist from crossing borders into neighbouring countries at the slightest provocation by Zanu (PF). People should gather courage and rise to the challenges brought by Mugabes party. Zanu (PF) is a minority party and should be treated as such. This time around people must stage massive and peaceful resistance to dictatorship.

MDC-T Member of Parliament for Marondera Central, Iain Kay, concurred with Vhilela.

There is no longer any Zanu (PF) to talk about. I have told my counterparts in the former ruling party that their legislative roles would end at the next elections. What is left of Zanu (PF) is a pocket of resistant thugs which loots state coffers and militia hired to perpetrate violence against agents of democracy.

Speaking at the same occasion, MDC-T Marondera District Chairperson, Chengetai Murova, challenged police officers to choose between being politicians or members of a national police force.

The police should make its position clear. Either be politicians or be a proper peoples police force.
