The victory over Bantu was Highlanders eighth successive win under the guidance of youthful coach Mukupali Masuku who took over from Egyptian mentor who was sacked following a spate of dreadful results which had threatened the team’s survival in the elite league.
And, since Bosso took the bold move to appoint Masuku the coach, they have been reaping the rewards.
Masuku has not lost to any team in the league since his appointment to the top job two months ago and has notched an incredible eight successive wins. They are now on third position with 49 points from 26 matches and have a mathematical chance of laying their hands on the league title following their win over Bantu.
But Masuku believes the championship is now a two horse race between Dynamos and Motor Action and that their best finish would be a second position which would guarantee them a place in the African Champions League next year alongside the winners of the league title.
If they finish third, Highlanders can still get a Caf Confederation Cup slot for next year because a team that finishes third on the log at the end of the season plus the one that wins the knock out cup represent the country in the less glamorous Caf Confederation Cup tournament.
“I am happy to collect maximum points once again. It is a good result going forward and our target is now a second place finish. We would love to play in the African Champions League and if we finish second we will have done our best because the league title is now out of our grasp.
It’s a battle between Dynamos and Motor Action but if any of the two sides slip up in the remaining games we have a very strong chance of finishing second,” said Masuku.
