The MDC Today Wednesday, 17 November 2010

crocodile2An MDC activist, Blessing Matake of Buhera South in Manicaland province who was facing fabricated poaching charges was on Tuesday acquitted. Matake is the MDC organising secretary for Buhera South district. He was arrested in August on false charges that he had poached a crocodile along Save River in Birchenough Bridge and sold the skin.

However, Chipinge Magistrate, Samuel Zuze acquitted Matake saying the State had no evidence to link Matake with the charges.

The MDC has condemned the humiliation and attack on Zimbabwes Deputy Prime Minister and MDC Vice President, Hon. Thokozani Khupe by State security agents who wished to search her as condition before she attended a Cabinet meeting in Harare on Tuesday. State security agents stopped Hon Khupe for a body search as she arrived for a Cabinet meeting at Munhumutapa Building in Harare on Tuesday morning. The MDC is shocked by that kind of harassment, coming as it does from state security agents who are supposed to protect and respect national leaders at all times. Cabinet meets every Tuesday to examine and debate crucial issues affecting ordinary Zimbabweans.

Meanwhile, the MDC has said the rise in the harassment and arbitrary arrests of journalists from the privately owned media shows a forlorn attempt to bully the independent media from exposing corruption in Zanu PF. In the past 10 years, Zanu PF has targeted journalists and private media houses for attack as an intimidation tactic. On Tuesday, Bulawayo police detained Dumisani Sibanda, a NewsDay reporter and president of the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ).

Together, united, winning, ready for real change!
