But it seems the party has gone a step too far with the recent launch of Operation headless chicken’. Radio VOP reports a senior Zanu (PF) official, who asked to remain anonymous, saying the party was identifying brave youths and party leaders who would be trained in beheading people who are anti-Zanu (PF).
What is going to happen is that supporters of the puppet MDC party will be beheaded and their families will be given the body without the head for burial,” he said. To back up this outrageous claim, the official referred to Operation long and short sleeves purportedly launched in Mashonaland Central during the bloody June 27 2008 Presidential run-off elections. He said this had seen the hands of MDC supporters being cut off by Zanu (PF) thugs. But no confirmed reports of such incidents can be found.
The announcement of this new operation shows that the party is completely desperate, said the head of a humanitarian organisation who cannot be identified. It is a ridiculous threat. As with the amputation story, I very much doubt that it will actually happen. They have obviously run out of ways to terrify people and so some lunatics are dreaming up these appalling ideas. Zimbabweans have been incredibly brave for so long now they just need to stand up for a little bit longer against threats like this, and not give way to fear.
Meanwhile several churches, including the Zimbabwe Council of Churches, the Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe, the Christian Alliance and the Student Christian Movement of Zimbabwe have warned against fresh elections, saying they would be marred by serious violence.
“Institutions and infrastructure that support violence such as the youth militia, war veterans and a partisan security force remain unreformed and therefore a threat to democratic elections, say the churches in a statement. The polarised environment does not favour the holding of elections as violence would most likely erupt. The political environment remains highly volatile, uncertain, and tense.
Guruve
Meanwhile, civil servants in Guruve have told The Zimbabwean that a gang led by former soldier Eleven Kambizi had targeted nurses, teachers and staff from the department of social welfare and the registrar generals office. Kambizi terrorized villagers in 2008. Others masterminding the plot were named as Philip Kagande and Washington Gava. At a meeting last week the thugs planned to set up a terror base at the Forestry Commission premises under the guise of a community fire management programme, said a nurse at Guruve general hospital who could not be named for security reasons.
The thugs are also said to be planning to weed out vendors suspected to be MDC sympathizers at the growth points vegetable and clothes markets. Some villagers are said to have spoken out at the meeting and vowed not to allow overzealous youths to terrorize them like they did in 2008.
