iain_kay3MARONDERA - MDC-T Member of Parliament for Marondera Central, Iain Kay, last week donated an assortment of clothing to victims of 2008 political violence, to cheer up their coming festive season. (Pictured: Iain Kay regularly visits constituents)

Kay distributed the gifts personally to also assess other urgent needs of the victims. Victims of violence, who lost breadwinners in political disturbances, sold off clothes and other households to make ends meet.

I am grateful for the generosity and goodwill by the legislator. Kay, Mayor Farai Nyandoro, MDC-T councillors and party supporters remained supportive to my family ever since my son and breadwinner, was abducted by Zanu (PF) militia and state security agents May 2008. He remained unaccounted. My son was abducted in full view of my family and neighbours. MDC has helped fill the gap he left in the family, said a parent who refused to be identified for fear of further reprisals by perpetrators of violence.

She said Kay had listed down some other family requirements for urgent attention. Following abduction of the family breadwinner who was an influential MDC-T activist, the family has struggled to pay council and electricity bills. Water and electricity supplies have been disconnected from the homestead due to non payment of bills. Children are regularly turned back from school as payment of fees was a major challenge to the family.

Kay also extended the generosity to other victimized families such as that of the abducted former MDC-T District Chairperson and Ward 12 councillor, Portifa Bakayimana. The MDC-T legislator, who resoundingly beat his Zanu (PF) rival, Peter Murwira, in March 29, 2008 polls with one of the widest margins ever recorded in the constituency, regularly visits victimised families with various provisions. He also assists residents in his constituency from across the political divide with wheelchairs, food hampers and agriculture inputs among other donations.
