More than 200 MDC supporters were killed during the 2008 election run-off, yet no one has been arraigned before the countrys courts. Many people who perished during the period were not accorded proper burial and the people of Muzarabani decided to give them respect at least by building decent graves.
The party Secretary for Muzarabani, Agreement Tangwira, said they had exerted pressure on the police with the help of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), and had even gone as far as suing the police who have not arrested perpetrators of violence.
We have built graves for our late members who were killed in political violence as we are seeking to give them respect in death. We have invited members of JOMIC to come and see what is happening in our area, said Tagwira.
Last week JOMIC, which is supposed to monitor the Government of National Unity (GNU) and the implementation of the
GPA met with members of both Zanu (PF) and MDC in Muzarabani in order to seek ways of finding lasting peace in the polarised region.
Houses that were burnt in 2008 have not been re-built and people are still struggling to catch up in terms of farming after their crop was burnt down. Livestock was also stolen and after the formation of the GNU people who sought to reclaim their looted properties were arrested.
Chief Changara of Muzarabani has prohibited marriage between supporters of MDC and Zanu (PF) and unrepentant Zanu (PF) supporters say unity exists only on paper.

MUZARABANI - People here, with the help of Heal Zimbabwe, have provided more than 17 graves for victims of political violence who were butchered by known Zanu (PF) supporters who are still walking scot free despite the heinous crimes that hang over their heads.
