Inscription at Lodge suggests Gunda assassinated

VICTORIA FALLS - Assassinated Brigadier General Amstrong Gundas family has put a permanent inscription at their Tatenda Lodge in Victoria Falls as a reminder to visitors about how the late senior army officer met his death.

Tourists who booked in at the Lodge recently, said they were touched by the inscription Makauraya. Enjoy nice meals. Makauraya literally means you killed. It is traditional in local custom to give people and places names in keeping with ones life experiences.

Though management at the Lodge could not translate what the inscription stood for, local clients revealed it served as a reminder for Gundas widow about her husbands mysterious death. We avoided discussing the issue with Mrs Gunda as we feared opening her old wounds, said an Australian tourist who stayed there recently.

Gundas dead body was found at a rail crossing near Watershed College outside Marondera a few years ago. He was Commander of the Presidential Guard and rumours had linked him to a coup plot to depose Mugabe from power. An army board of enquiry claimed he had died in a train-car crash. People close to the accident said nothing at the rail crossing suggested a fatal accident could have occurred.

Gunda was among several army senior officers who died within a short space of time in circumstances described as mysterious.
