The MDC has congratulated Hon. Lovemore Moyo, the Speaker of the House of Assembly and the party national chairperson, on his election as the new leader of the SADC Parliamentary Forum.

The MDC said the elevation of Hon. Moyo on Friday 3 December 2010 shows SADCs confidence in the MDC and the people of Zimbabwe. He becomes the first Zimbabwean chairperson on the regional grouping, a feat that demonstrates the MDCs requisite role and impeccable credentials in fostering regional cohesion, unity and development.

Hundreds of Harare residents today took to the streets calling for the dismissal of the Minister of Local Government, Rural and Urban Development, Ignatius Chombo for corruption.

Chombo failed to explain how he acquired his vast wealth. A report prepared by Harare councillors recently exposed Chombo, for improperly acquiring 20 hectares of prime land at Number 61 Helensvale in Borrowdale.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Housing and Social Amenties and Chikanga Dangamvura MP, Hon. Giles Mutsekwa has said the MDC is ready for peaceful elections. Addressing hundreds of MDC supporters at Five Mile in Chipinge West, Manicaland province on Sunday, Hon. Mutsekwa said the MDC was geared for an election anytime, anywhere but he emphasised that the election had to be non violent, free, fair and credible. He urged the people to shun violence ahead of the elections as this affect the lives of innocent people especially the elderly, young children and women.
