MDC-T leadership in SA and others is meeting Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma today over the 31 December deadline.MDC-T prays that mass deportations which are penciled to resume within the next two weeks would be put on hold after our meeting today. We appeal for clemency and compassion. Going back to Zimbabwe is just as dangerous as hanging around in the xenophobic attacks prone Ramaphosa Informal settlement.
It is now abundantly clear to everyone that millions of people would not have accessed the necessary documents by 31 December. It is crystal obvious, that the deadline will not allow a success of the project, which makes the whole process a mockery of its own self.
We fully support the documentation process but paying a blind eye to a number of fatal obstacles which bedeviled the noble process will not do anyone any favor.
There is no way we can run away from the fact that there was no clear information and transparency about the process within the Zimbabwe communities and as well as the civil societies. We also watched with horror as Home Affairs continues to alter its story by the department starting demanding a plethora of documents that were not initially requested, like certified copies of company registration papers and tax clearance certificates.
The process is also hinged on the Zimbabwe government’s capacity to issues birth certificates, Identity Cards and Passports. However it turned out that the Zimbabwe government is incapable of delivering the necessary passports within the required time frame.
These are some of the issues we shall be raising with the minister.
We are however holding a Press Conference tomorrow to give you the minister’s responses, our analysis and way forward.
