KAROI A top Zanu (PF) sympathiser here is now resorting to using prison labour after losing more than 120 workers from his farm after failing to pay salaries for nine months, prison sources have revealed. Highly placed sources at Karoi Prison said Temba Mliswa personally visited Karoi prison to collect a gang of 25 inmates whom he is now using as his SpringFfarm labourers.
They alleged that more than 120 farm workers deserted Mliswa after he had failed to pay them for at least nine months.
He comes here from Monday to Thursday personally to take the inmates who are planting his tobacco. We are not sure whether he pays the prison or not because we also use his grinding mills for prison mealie-meal production, said prison officials.
Mliswa a close ally of Prisons chief, retired Major General Paradzai Zimondi, last year gave Zimondi several beasts as a present for winning a field day at an event which was held at Spring Farm. He was also last year awarded a prison pig breeding tender by Zimondi.
