Officer in fertiliser scam

KAROI - A Karoi Prison officer-in-charge, Superintendent Christine Manhivi, is involved in a four tone fertilizer scam which she diverted for her personal use, it has been established.

Highly placed sources at Karoi Prison said last year Superintendent Manhivi lent Hurungwe farm prison four tonnes of urea fertilizer after it had run out of the commodity. Coincidentally Hurungwe prison did not use the fertilizer which was returned to Karoi Prison this year.

Realising that the fertilizer was retuned, sources said Manhivi kept it for her private use at her farm in the same area. The Ofiicer-in-charge hired a Nissan Lorry registration number 438-174B driven by Fanuel Kamanura to go and collect the fertilizer from Hurungwe on October 17, 2010 and gave him 35 litres of prison diesel.

The lorry was also ordered to go Chinhoyi and exchange the fertilizer with compound C, and was given another 80 litres of fuel siphoned from the prison, said the sources. Officers said Manhivi boasts that she is an untouchable war veteran who last year stole farm inputs without being caught by the authorities.
