PSL heads for photo finish

benjamin_marere2HARARE - The Premier Soccer League is now headed for a photo finish after Benjamin Marere (pictured) hauled Dynamos back into contention with a double as Motor Actions Premier League title push appears to hit the buffers.

Marere scored either side of the break at Mucheke, and Nicholas Arufandika weighed in with a third, to draw Dynamos level on points with the Mighty Bulls who laboured to a 0-0 draw with Highlanders in Harare. Both teams now have 60 points from 28 matches but Dynamos are a rung below because of superior goal difference.

The league pacesetters have a superior goal scoring record than Dynamos. Motor Action have scored 45 goals against Dynamos’ 38 and this means that Dynamos have to win by bigger margins in their remaining matches if they entertain hopes landing the coveted league title in the event that it is decided on goal difference.

Motor Action have been at the summit of the league title since day one of the league programme but now Dynamos who have played second fiddle for the better part of the season are now breathing heavily on them as the two teams are now seperated by only a goal difference. However, with Sundays 0-0 stalemate against Highlanders coming after another disappointing 1-1 draw with Gunners in midweek, Motor Action boss Joey Antipas cut a frustrated figure at the final whistle.

“It was a tough game and both teams fought their hearts out. We wanted maximum points from this match, unfortunately, it ended in a draw. This is all part of football and we shall continue fighting. We are still on top and we have equal chances of winning, although we have now made it difficult for ourselves,” said Antipas.
