Foodstuffs donated included maize meal, beans, soya mince, dried kapenta and salt among other items. Handing over the foodstuffs, the District Governor of Rotary Club International, Moses Malunda from Zambia, said: This donation is meant to boost supplies at the school. Rotarians are committed people who do their work with a passion, they have the desire to see other people smiling and helping these children is an achievement which will bring satisfaction to the Rotarians.”
Malunda expressed gratitude with the way the Rotarians were doing their projects and assisting the needy in society. The president of the Rotary Club in Mutare, Carlington Tigere, said: We recently held a golf tournament to help raise funds for Chengetai Special School and managed to purchase part of their requirements.”
Chengetai’s deputy head, Esther Njikizani, said the centre strived for self reliance. “Chengetai is a special school where we spend time with children who are mentally challenged. These children need people who understand and tolerate them, she said.
“In some cases you might find that the child is more attached to the teacher than family members because the teachers are well trained on how to handle them and they know what they require,” she added. The school has an enrolment of 50 children at full capacity and boarding facility for 20 children.
