The German ambassador to Zimbabwe, Dr Albretcht Conze, partnered with various investors in Zimbabwe and internationally to set up a trust in a bid to fulfill Fabischs dream.

The school will cater for children from various backgrounds, including those orphaned due to HIV/Aids, who have above average potential in football.

Chawada Fabisch said the aim of the academy was to house children in one boarding house and have them trained by experienced coaches and educated to the highest level, thus giving them a greater opportunity in life.

“Reinhard truly loved Zimbabwe and believed there was so much untapped talent in this country. So it gives me much pleasure to be here to honour one of his last dying wishes. Through the Reinhard Fabisch school we will be able to immortalise his legacy so I am sure he is very happy looking down on us now,” she said.

Her late husband is remembered for creating the famous Dream Team of the early 90s that came within spitting distance of qualifying for the world cup finals. The highlight of his coaching career was finishing second with Kenya’s Harambe Stars at the African Cup of Nations in 1987.
