This reporter witnessed the drama that unfolded at Market Square at Gulf Shopping Mall, where the Chinese businessman claimed he was protected by President Robert Mugabe and so nothing was going to happen to him.
Margret Chimutsanya, the woman at the centre of the brawl, claimed that she forgot her wallet containing US$50, her national identity card and bank card on the counter in Lou Songs shop.
The woman who worked for the Chinese businessman was not polite when I asked her about the whereabouts of my wallet as she arrogantly told me that my ID had been thrown in the dustbin in the shop, Chimutsanya said amid sobs.
She said she immediately alerted some nearby cops who immediately responded and picked up the shop assistant whom she suspected of having stolen her wallet.
Lou Song dashed to the scene in a fit of rage and shouted at the police to release his worker or else he was going to fire her.
The police handcuffed him, which immediately sparked a kung-fu karate brawl, leaving the four cops dropping to the ground. Loitering commuter touts bayed for the blood of the businessman, whom they accused of beating up the police.
The beaten cops were saved by a police back-up team that arrived and took the businessman away.
This reporter heard the irate Chinaman shouting at the crowd and the cops at the top of his voice: You are stupid, all of you are stupid. Nothing will happen to me. Im protected by President Robert Mugabe.
