Doom and gloom for ZISCO employees

KWEKWE Employees are living in uncertainty at Ziscosteel after failing to access their salaries from June 2010.

The employees told this newspaper that they had not received their salaries since June despite the company being taken over by Essah Holdings.

They had raised their hopes after the announcement that Essar Holdings had bought 60 percent shares.

Workers representative, Robert Mungofa, said:

Since the company started operating in October all the employees who were on forced leave were recalled to work and everything was normal, but what baffles us is the fact that the company has failed to pay our salaries since it started operations.

Since June we have been operating on two weeks on two weeks off basis. But, up to now Essar Holding has failed to pay us our full salaries. We had a bleak Christmas and New Year.

No official comment was obtained from Essah Holding management at the time of going to the press, as they were said to have been continuously locked in management meetings at the company premises.

Minister of Industry and Commerce, Welshman Ncube, confirmed that Essar Holdings bought 60 percent shares on condition that they took over Ziscos debts including the employees outstanding salaries.

Ncube said the company was suppose to pay the workers the outstanding salaries back-dated to June 2010.
