Ever since Zanu (PF) resolved at its annual conference in December that there would be elections this year party supporters have been upping the ante in intimidation and violence against members of the MDC.
Deputy Minister of Women Affairs Jessie Majome told The Zimbabwean that the partys losing candidate for Mt Darwin, Rebecca Chavhunduka, had failed to get bail for the eight.
We have received reports from our Rebecca that two of our supporters were stabbed in Mt Darwin and then the culprits went to report the case to the police station at Mukumbura Police Station who later made the arrests. The two need urgent medical attention but yet the police are refusing to give them leave to go to hospital, said Majome.
The arrest of innocent victims in the countrys skewed political drama is not a new phenomenon. Victims of the 2008 election violence that killed more than 200 MDC supporters and left thousands maimed who tried to recover their looted properties at the onset of the Inclusive Government were arrested.
Police Chief Augustine Chihuri has made it no secret that he supports Zanu (PF) and is currently opposing the proposed amendments to the draconian Public Order Security Act (POSA) which has sailed through parliament and is now set to go to the senate.
