The talented Makonese, who is out-of-favour at the Bucs and is reportedly supposed to be loaned out, in what has been linked to ill-discipline, had still not returned to Johannesburg since leaving for the Christmas Holidays, which he spent in his home country.
Pirates head of training academy, Augusto Palacios, confirmed to The Zimbabwean *********** this week that the central defender, signed from Cape Town-based Santos two seasons ago, had still not reported for training with the development team, where he is supposed to be.
He added that this was second time that Makonese had disappeared from Pirates. He did the same last year, after he was also sent to train with the clubs development team, also due to disciplinary problems.
“The head coach asked Makonese to train with the development team but I last saw him before we closed last year. He has still not reported at the academy,” said Palacios early this week.
Efforts to get hold of Makonese proved futile as his phone continuously off, with some Pirates sources saying he had been seen in Harare during the week.
