Zanu (PF)’s Provincial Secretary for Security, Owen Ncube, alias Muda Mugabe, believed to be a CIO operative, made the threats as he assumed the role at the end of 2010, with former ZBC broadcaster and Mberengwa legislator Makhosini Hlongwane as his deputy.
In December, Mnangagwa threw a lavish bash for Ncube, where he showered him with praises.
“I will see to it that Zanu (PF) reclaims all the wards that were taken in Kwekwe and Gweru by the MDC. I will quash the MDC because they are enemies of the revolution,” Ncube said.
Efforts to get comment from Mnangagwa’s rival, Kwekwe MP Blessing Chebundo were in vain despite messages being sent to his mobile number. However, sources within the MDC-T here said Ncube was known to carry out his threats of violence.
In the 2000 elections Ncube was the Zanu (PF) district security chief for Mnangagwa’s constituency. He mobilised a gang that abducted Chebundo and doused him with petrol. Efforts to set him alight failed after the bungling assassins could not find matches.
Mnangagwa has now been relegated to the rural Chirumanzu-Zibagwe constituency while Ncube is reportedly in a tussle for Gokwe-Kana with Flora Buka, who belongs to the rival faction led by Solomon Mujuru.
