Most documented crisis

JOHANNESBURG - Zimbabwe is the most documented political crisis in Southern Africa, according to Peace Solidarity Trust, a leading international human rights organization dealing with scattered Zimbabwean political refugees who fled the country after being displaced by Zanu (PF).

A senior officer within the human rights organization based in Johannesburg who declined to be named said Zimbabwes political violence cases were the highest in the region.

From the work we have been doing, and from our assessment, Zimbabwes political violence cases top those of the entire Southern African region. This credit goes to human rights organizations operating in the country over the years which have continued to film and record some live violations of human rights which were happening and continue to happen in the country, the official told Radio VOP at the weekend

He gave the example of a former Prison Officer, Shepherd Yuda, who is now based in the United Kingdom who smuggled a hidden video camera into Harare Central Prison during the bloody June 27, 2008 Presidential run-off elections. Yuda captured Senior Prison officials directing junior officers to cast their votes on Zanu (PF) Presidential candidate Robert Mugabe.

The video footage got international coverage and assisted in the discrediting of the violent and bloody one man Presidential election run-off.

Solidarity Peace Trust said the documented political cases in Zimbabwe were going to be submitted to the United Nations Security council which will decide what to do with them. – Joel Mhizha
