MARONDERA - MDC and Zanu (PF) council workers here affiliated to the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions, ZCTU, and The Zimbabwe Federation of Trade Unions, ZFTU, respectively, held separate end-of-year parties end of last month.Workers affiliated to ZCTU are MDC supporters while those aligned to the ZFTU, are Zanu (PF). The two unions held separate celebration parties at 2019 Gazebos and Mbuya Nehanda Hall simultaneously on December 17.
“Bloody scuffles later broke out at 2019 Gazebos after some suspected Zanu (PF) youths reportedly intruded into the MDC gathering. Some revellers sustained serious body injuries in the skirmishes,” said an employee at the venue.
Last September when ZFTU members downed tools over non-payment of nine months wages and salaries, MDC council workers affiliated to ZCTU distanced themselves from the job action as they continued with their council duties. This angered Zanu (PF) council workers who accused MDC of undermining workers’
cause for justified labour relations.
A source at the town house described the relationship between Zanu (PF) and MDC as polarized beyond harmonization.
