Power station welcomed

power_stationEASTERN HIGHLANDS - Local villagers and the business community have welcomed the recent commissioning of a three megawatt power station at Nyangura dam, saying the hydro electric project has eased load shedding in their area.

The project, which was made possible through a partnership by a local Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Practical Action, is likely to increase tea production in the area and ease load shedding for the small local businesses.

“The commission of the power station is a welcome development for the estate and the community at large. Business at the tea plantation has been constantly disrupted by persistence load shedding by Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA).This prompted the company to seek alternative ways of solving problems emanating from power outages,” said a top company official who refused to be named.
