Zimbabwe African People’s Union (ZAPU) is the main opposition party to three ruling coalition parties, ZANU (PF) led by President Robert Mugabe, MDC-T led by Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and MDC-M led by Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara. ZAPU was formed in 1961 after the banning of its predecessor, the National Democratic Party (NDP). According to its constitution of 1961, it was formed by Zimbabweans to liberate themselves against the then oppressive British colonial system. Its main aim was to promote Zimbabweans to realise self determination and to be the architects of their destiny. This still remains its main objective as evidenced by its promotion of devolution power in governing the country Dr Dumiso Dabengwa was elected president of ZAPU during its 9th Congress in August 2010 held at Bulawayo Trade Fair grounds. Recently he was delisted from United States of America’s targeted sanctions and he [Dr D. Dabengwa] was also invited in Algiers to attend an international conference on the 13th December 2010 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of United Nation’s Adoption of Resolution 1524 The Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples.

Dr Dumiso Dabengwa is not a new figure to conventional opposition politics in Zimbabwe, this result from his advocacy for progressive politics. His critics tried him soon after independence and there are still trying day and night to discredit his credentials and proficiency in politics but will not succeed. For you all who have greater vision and more realistic prospect lets rally behind the greatest leader of our times and give him the support and the mandate that he deserves to save country and bring affluence to Zimbabweans.
