11 MDC activists arrested in Kadoma

mdc_logoKadoma - Military Police yesterday arrested an MDC-T legislator for Kabuyuni, Costin Muguti along with 10 other party activists reportedly for inciting political violence.

The 11 still being held at Kadoma Central Police Station had stopped to refill their vehicle with fuel at a fuel filling station when they were arrested while their lawyer Tapera Sengweni who had brought his clients food at the police station was also arrested for undermining the authority of the police officers and was made to pay a fine of $20 before being released.

The eleven, Gilbert Shanhare, Brighton Chibanda, Edifer Vhushoma, Admire Padare, Johnson Chawatama, Clive Madenyika, Raphael Mukiwa, Tichaona Chakanetsa, Brian Ndlovu, Agrippa Silagwa and Amos Maganga are expected to appear in court Today (Thursday)

Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) Lawyer Trust Maanda, of Maunga, Maanda and Associates, confirmed the arrests instituted to them by one Mwaleon allegations of stealing cellphone recharge cards and tampering with Zanu PF posters.

He however said the charge sheets for Muguti and his colleagues did not reflect any of the offenses allegedly committed by his clients.

I can confirm that a Member of Parliament and 10 others were arrested around 11am on Tuesday by military police while refuelling their car at a Comoil service station. They are being charged with inciting political violence, said Maanda.

Sengweni who initially represented the eleven was reportedly arrested after insisting the he wanted to give his clients some food as the police denied them access to it. Police has been on rampage against MDC-T members and supporters,

handing them trumped up charges, as they now fear the Egypt style protests across Zimbabwe and also feel it is the best way to resuscitate the Zanu (PF) party which now in political intensive care.
