BYO politicians join forces to fight violence

BULAWAYO - Representatives of the major political parties here have formed a committee to look into issues of political violence as the country moves towards a general election, possibly later this year.

The committees mandate will be to ensure that all political parties desist from hate language and violence. Multi Party Peace and Liaison committee has been also tasked to immediately engage the Police over issues of violence.

The MDCT, MDC-N, Zapu and the recently-formed Mthwakazi Liberation Front (MLF) have already endorsed the committee, but no representative from Zanu (PF) attended the launch.

The coordinator, Bekithemba Nyathi, emphasized the need for a co-ordinated approach to fight violence.

It is unfortunate that Zanu (PF) is not present at this meeting as they are the ones who have been constantly accused of fanning violence especially during election period. Their actions fly in the face of national healing, said Nyathi.

Ndumiso Mangena of Zapu said the committee would continue to engage Zanu (PF) to participate.

MDC-T Bulawayo central MP, Dorcas Sibanda, hailed the establishment of the committee.
