Chamisa in court

nelsonchamisa_mdcHARARE - Information and Communication Technology Minister Nelson Chamisa (Pictured) who is also spokesperson FOR the MDC-T faction yesterday appeared in court facing charges of negligent driving arising from 2007.

Chamisa appeared before magistrate Archie Wochiunga when he tried to apply for discharge citing the fact that his prosecution was now an element of persecution on the grounds of his political interests, considering the time that had lapsed before the trial had commenced.

“A period of four years wouldn’t be reasonable time for trying this case, hence my application for discharge,” said Chamisa’s lawyer in his application. The trial magistrate however dismissed Chamisa’s application after the state led by Nathaniel Chigoro objected to the application, he was then remanded to 17 March.

Zimbabwe’s partisan judiciary system has had a tendency of shelving cases of perceived Zanu (PF) critics, only to resureent them when it is politically convenient.
