HARARE - The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission Chair Justice Simpson Mutambanengwe has admitted that the current voters roll includes ghost voters, adding that elections will only be held when the issue is addressed. What we would want to achieve as an organisation charged with the function of compiling the voters roll and supervising the registration of voters, is a voters roll that removes all of these defects or alleged defects, Mutambanengwe said.
In April 2010 the Zimbabwe Election Support Network, the countrys election watchdog, embarked on a voters roll audit to assess the quality of the voters roll in Zimbabwe. The research project, which sought to test the accuracy, currency and completeness of the voters roll, discovered that at least 27 per cent of voters registered in the voters roll were deceased.
It also emerged that 2344 people born between 1901 and 1909 therefore aged between 101 and 110 years were still in the voters roll.
