Dynamite in a small package

thamsanqa_moyo2HARARE - Thirteen-year-old Thamsanqa Moyos performance at the Sistaz Open Mic this month, left many stunned by her talent and excited about her potential. (Pictured: The talented Thamsanqa Moyo strums her stuff on stage.)

Moyos music is fusion of hip hop and R&B with a bit of soul in what she calls the Tager-based-beat. What also makes her a threat to the big sisters in the music industry is not only her striking voice but her ability to play the guitar. Her warning shots are powerful and urban grooves big sisters such as Diana Samkange and Rufaro Cindy Munyavi together with afrojazz diva, Dudu Manhenga and mbira queen Chiwoniso Maraire should watch this space.

Moyo started singing at the age of seven at Lusitania Primary school.

Our music teacher just encouraged us to come up and sing in front of the class. But as a kid you just sing and you dont know what is good singing and what is bad, so I never knew what I did moved my teacher. He is the one who saw the potential in me and urged me on, said Moyo. I was greatly inspired to do what I do by the late M.J (Michael Jackson) and I have been performing at Sistaz Open Mic for the past three years with the help of Aunty Dudu Manhenga. The audience is just great even for first timers.
